Head of General Ledger & Tax – Leitung Hauptbuchhaltung & Steuern

Continental is recruiting a Head of General Ledger & Tax for our Hannover office. This full-time position offers strategic oversight of financial reporting, tax compliance, and general ledger operations within a global automotive technology company.

Role Overview

As Head of General Ledger & Tax, you'll direct the accounting team responsible for maintaining Continental's financial records and tax positions. This leadership role combines technical expertise in accounting principles with strategic management of tax planning and regulatory compliance. You'll report to senior financial leadership and drive initiatives that strengthen financial controls, reporting accuracy, and tax efficiency.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Oversee general ledger operations, including transaction processing, account reconciliation, and period-end close procedures
• Lead tax strategy development and ensure compliance with German federal, state, and local tax regulations
• Manage the accounting team, establishing performance standards and fostering professional development
• Prepare and review financial statements and tax returns for accuracy and completeness
• Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard financial records and prevent irregularities
• Collaborate with external auditors and tax consultants on compliance matters and audit preparation
• Identify process improvements and lead implementation of accounting system enhancements

Who We're Looking For

• Qualified accountant with extensive experience in general ledger and tax accounting functions
• Proven track record managing accounting teams in a multinational, complex operating environment
• Strong knowledge of German GAAP, HGB requirements, and corporate tax law
• Experience preparing consolidated financial statements and managing financial close processes
• Fluent in English and German (essential for this Hannover-based role)
• Proficiency with modern accounting systems and ERP platforms
• Commitment to accuracy, compliance, and professional integrity in financial operations
