Role Overview
As Media Relations Director, Sports, you'll be the primary voice between our organization and the media landscape. You'll develop and execute comprehensive media strategies, manage day-to-day press inquiries, and ensure consistent, compelling storytelling that builds our presence and credibility within the sports industry. This role combines strategic planning with hands-on communications work, requiring someone who can think big while managing immediate media needs.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain relationships with sports journalists, broadcasters, and media outlets
- Create and distribute press releases, media alerts, and timely communications
- Manage media inquiries, interviews, and coverage requests with responsiveness and accuracy
- Prepare spokespeople for media interviews and public appearances
- Monitor media coverage and industry news; provide regular reporting and analysis
- Coordinate media presence at events, games, and company announcements
- Manage crisis communications and reputation protection when needed
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of media relations, public relations, or sports communications experience
- Proven expertise in sports industry communications and athlete or team representation
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to craft engaging press releases and media materials
- Strong relationships within sports media and journalism communities
- Experience managing media requests, interviews, and journalist relations
- Comfort with crisis communication and rapid-response scenarios
- Proficiency with media databases, CMS platforms, and digital tools
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
