Speechify is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for Windows/Desktop Applications at our Hartford, Connecticut office. In this full-time position, you'll build and enhance the Windows desktop application that helps millions of users turn reading into listening.
About the Role
Speechify's Windows application brings text-to-speech technology to desktop users worldwide. As a Senior Software Engineer on this team, you'll own the architecture, development, and optimization of our Windows desktop application, ensuring a seamless experience as users convert PDFs, documents, web content, and other reading materials into high-quality audio. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll drive technical decisions and mentor other engineers while delivering a product that directly impacts the lives of our 50 million+ users.
What You'll Do
- Design and develop Windows desktop features and improvements in C# and/or C++
- Optimize application performance, stability, and user experience across Windows platforms
- Collaborate with product, design, and cross-platform teams to implement text-to-speech functionality for diverse file formats
- Build and maintain Windows-specific integrations, APIs, and system-level features
- Contribute to architectural decisions for the Windows desktop application
- Write clean, maintainable code with thorough testing practices
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in production
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant expertise in Windows or desktop application development
- Strong proficiency in C#, C++, or similar systems-level languages
- Demonstrated ability to architect and lead technical projects
- Deep understanding of Windows APIs, threading, memory management, and performance optimization
- Experience building consumer-facing applications with millions of active users
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
