About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential semiconductor organization seeking a Senior Physical Design Engineer to join their expanding team in Edinburgh, Scotland. Our client operates at the forefront of mixed-signal processing technology, delivering solutions for leading consumer brands worldwide. This is an excellent opportunity to work on industry-leading SOC implementations while contributing to cutting-edge ASIC development.
This is a hybrid position requiring 2+ days per week in the Edinburgh office, with specific in-office days determined by business needs and team preference. Candidates must be based within commutable distance or willing to relocate.
Responsibilities
- Execute all aspects of RTL to GDS2 physical implementation for complex ASIC projects
- Collaborate with Digital Design, Analogue Layout, and DFT teams to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables
- Participate in project scoping and planning activities
- Develop and refine place-and-route methodologies for continuous improvement
- Drive designs through full implementation flow to design closure and tapeout
- Perform debug and analysis of designs, libraries, and technology files
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Proven industry experience in a Physical Design position
- Extensive experience with industry-standard EDA tools for digital implementation and signoff
- Familiarity with Synopsys Design Compiler and Primetime
- Familiarity with Cadence Innovus, Voltus, and Conformal
Technical Expertise:
- Hands-on working knowledge of deep sub-micron ASIC implementation
- RTL synthesis expertise
- Timing constraint debug and development
- Floorplanning and power planning
- Clock tree synthesis
- Place-and-route optimization, timing closure, and ECO implementation
- Static timing analysis
- Logical Equivalence Checks
- Power and EMIR analysis
- Proven responsibility for full design flow to tapeout
- Proficiency in scripting for automating and advancing flows
Additional Requirements:
- Strong communication and excellent collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider design team
- Must be able to access technical data without export license requirements due to export control regulations
