About This Opportunity
Our talent team is representing a confidential automotive marketplace client seeking a Director of Product Design to lead their design function through an exciting phase of platform evolution. This is a senior leadership role reporting to the VP of Product, where you'll shape the vision and execution of a two-sided marketplace connecting consumers and dealers across web and app experiences.
The business operates at significant scale across Europe, with millions of users and substantial transaction volumes. They've recently expanded through acquisition and now manage one of the largest automotive content audiences globally, alongside their core marketplace operations.
This role is based in London with hybrid working arrangements.
Responsibilities
- Partner with product and engineering leadership to define the long-term product vision and translate it into cohesive user experiences
- Design for both consumer and dealer sides of the marketplace, understanding the distinct needs of casual users versus professional tools
- Connect fragmented product experiences across discovery, transaction, and selling workflows on web and mobile platforms
- Elevate design quality and consistency across the product portfolio while setting high craft standards
- Lead, develop and grow the Product Design team, creating an environment for career-best work
- Stay hands-on with the hardest product challenges, reviewing work and providing direction on complex problems
- Collaborate with analytics teams to measure design performance, run experiments and iterate based on data
- Apply AI thoughtfully to both product features and design workflows where it genuinely improves outcomes
- Maintain close contact with end users through research and testing to inform design decisions
What We're Looking For
- Proven track record leading Product Design teams at digital product companies with strong craft culture
- Experience designing for marketplaces, platforms or similarly complex multi-sided products
- Deep understanding of both consumer-facing design and professional tool design, with ability to balance competing needs
- Strong product judgment and ability to simplify complex systems
- Track record building and developing high-performing design teams
- Hands-on approach - comfortable reviewing work, challenging thinking and staying close to execution
- Data-informed design approach with experience using analytics and experimentation to validate decisions
- Practical experience implementing AI in production products with good judgment about when it adds value
- Excellent collaboration skills with product management and engineering partners
- Ability to create shared vision and align cross-functional teams around customer outcomes
Industry background in automotive is not required - fresh perspective from other sectors is valued.
