Director of Preconstruction & Estimating

KBE Building Corp is hiring a Director of Preconstruction & Estimating for our Farmington office in Hartford County. This is a full-time leadership position for a seasoned construction professional ready to drive project profitability and build lasting relationships with clients, architects, and trade partners.

The Opportunity

Lead the preconstruction and estimating function for a growing general contractor committed to relationship-based business practices. You'll shape project strategy from conception through bid, manage a talented estimating team, and partner directly with project managers and executives to ensure every project is positioned for success. This role offers the opportunity to influence company culture, mentor emerging talent, and build a reputation as a trusted advisor to clients and design professionals throughout Connecticut.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Direct preconstruction planning and estimating for commercial and build-to-suit projects ranging from renovation to new construction
• Lead a team of estimators and preconstruction specialists; mentor staff on constructability, value engineering, and market-competitive pricing
• Conduct thorough cost and schedule analysis on all bid requests; identify constructability risks and opportunities early
• Partner with clients and architects during design phase to align budget expectations with project scope and quality standards
• Manage estimating workflows, databases, and subcontractor bid processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness
• Collaborate with project delivery teams post-award to execute preconstruction services and support project close-out
• Stay current on material costs, labor rates, and market conditions across all building trades in the Connecticut region

Qualifications

• 15+ years in construction estimating and/or preconstruction management; director-level or equivalent lead experience required
• Expert knowledge of takeoff methods, estimating software (Accubid or similar), and construction cost databases
• Demonstrated ability to mentor a team and manage multiple high-complexity projects simultaneously
• Strong relationship and communication skills; ability to interface professionally with clients, architects, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent professional experience considered
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management technology platforms
