Designer – Substation

Quanta Services seeks an experienced Designer - Substation to join our team in Greektown, Chicago. This full-time position offers the opportunity to shape the future of power infrastructure through innovative design and collaborative engineering.

Position Summary

As a Designer - Substation with Quanta Services, you'll play a critical role in planning and designing electrical substation systems that support our partners' energy infrastructure. Working within our integrated services group, you'll contribute your technical expertise to deliver turnkey solutions that combine efficiency, precision, and safety. Your designs will support the planning, engineering, and construction phases of complex energy projects across the region.

Core Duties

• Develop detailed substation layouts and design documentation using industry-standard CAD software
• Create electrical single-line diagrams and coordinate equipment placement for optimal performance
• Collaborate with project engineers, field teams, and clients to ensure designs meet project requirements and standards
• Conduct technical reviews and quality assurance checks on design deliverables
• Support project managers in communicating design specifications and managing scope throughout construction
• Maintain compliance with industry codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
• Participate in problem-solving sessions to address design challenges and optimize solutions

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
• Demonstrated experience in substation or electrical power systems design
• Proficiency with AutoCAD or equivalent design software
• Strong understanding of electrical principles, single-line diagrams, and power system fundamentals
• Excellent attention to detail and technical documentation skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
