Substation Project Manager

The Opportunity

As a Substation Project Manager at CDM Smith, you'll oversee the planning, design, and execution of substation projects that serve regional power distribution needs. This role combines technical expertise with project leadership, allowing you to manage timelines, budgets, and stakeholder relationships while ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. You'll work with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver projects that strengthen electrical infrastructure in Connecticut and beyond.

Responsibilities

• Direct all phases of substation project delivery, from initial scoping and design through construction and commissioning
• Manage project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure on-time, on-budget completion
• Coordinate with engineering teams, contractors, clients, and regulatory bodies to maintain project momentum and resolve issues
• Monitor project performance against established KPIs and quality benchmarks
• Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and environmental regulations throughout project execution
• Communicate project status, risks, and outcomes to stakeholders and senior leadership

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil, electrical, or related engineering discipline
• 5+ years of experience managing infrastructure or construction projects, with preference for power systems or electrical utility work
• Demonstrated proficiency with project management software and tools
• Strong knowledge of electrical utility industry standards, safety regulations, and project delivery methodologies
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as needed for site visits and client meetings
