Director, Construction (Project Execution)

Avantus seeks a Director, Construction (Project Execution) to lead project delivery operations at our San Diego, San Diego County headquarters. This full-time role is central to executing our nation-leading portfolio of utility-scale solar and integrated storage projects across California and the Desert Southwest.

The Opportunity

As Director of Construction (Project Execution), you'll oversee the planning, coordination, and successful delivery of complex utility-scale energy infrastructure projects. This leadership role demands deep construction expertise and the ability to manage cross-functional teams, contractors, budgets, and timelines on projects that power millions of American homes and businesses. You'll shape how Avantus brings renewable energy online and maintain the operational excellence that defines our competitive edge.

Core Duties

• Direct and manage the execution phase of solar and storage projects from permitting through energization and hand-off to operations
• Oversee contractor selection, performance management, and on-site supervision to ensure quality, safety, and schedule compliance
• Develop and manage project budgets, identify cost optimization opportunities, and control change orders
• Coordinate with engineering, development, procurement, and operations teams to align project delivery with company strategy
• Implement and enforce safety protocols, quality standards, and regulatory compliance across all project sites
• Manage stakeholder relationships, including utility partners, regulatory agencies, and local communities
• Track project metrics, identify risks early, and implement corrective actions to protect schedule and budget

Skills & Qualifications

• 10+ years of construction management experience in energy, infrastructure, or utility-scale development
• Proven track record leading large-scale project execution with multiple teams and contractors
• Strong understanding of solar, storage, or renewable energy project construction practices
• Demonstrated expertise in budget management, procurement, and contractor oversight
• Excellent communication and leadership skills with ability to manage at all organizational levels
• Familiarity with California and Southwest regulatory and permitting frameworks preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
