Child Services Attorney

About the Role

As a Child Services Attorney for the State of Indiana, you'll serve as legal counsel in child protective services matters, representing the state's interests in dependency, neglect, and termination cases throughout Marion County and surrounding areas. This role combines courtroom advocacy, legal research, and case management in one of the state's most impactful practice areas.

What You'll Do

• Represent the State of Indiana in family court proceedings involving child abuse, neglect, and dependency matters
• Prepare and file legal pleadings, motions, and supporting documentation for child welfare cases
• Advocate in court to ensure decisions prioritize child safety and family preservation when appropriate
• Collaborate with Department of Child Services caseworkers, social workers, and law enforcement to build factual records
• Handle cases from intake through resolution, including termination of parental rights proceedings
• Provide legal guidance on statute interpretation and case law specific to Indiana family law
• Manage caseloads efficiently while maintaining attention to detail and legal deadlines

What We're Looking For

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
• Active membership and license to practice in the Indiana State Bar
• Strong knowledge of Indiana family law, child welfare statutes, and court procedures
• Excellent written and oral advocacy skills
• Ability to work compassionately with children, families, and colleagues in sensitive situations
• Organizational skills to manage multiple cases and court appearances
• Commitment to protecting children's rights and supporting the child welfare system
