Teacher – 2nd Grade

Richmond City Public Schools is hiring a full-time 2nd Grade Teacher for Swansboro Elementary in Richmond, Richmond County. We're looking for a passionate educator ready to create an engaging classroom where every student develops strong foundational skills in reading, math, and critical thinking.

About the Role

This is a full-time position based at Swansboro Elementary School, running on a 9.5-month, 200-day academic calendar. You'll teach a 2nd grade classroom, leading daily instruction and fostering a supportive learning community. The role involves typical school-based duties including classroom management, student assessment, and collaboration with colleagues and families to support student success.

What You'll Do

• Teach core subjects including reading, mathematics, science, and social studies using research-based, standards-aligned methods
• Design and deliver lessons that meet diverse learning needs and engage young learners
• Monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments, adjusting instruction accordingly
• Build positive relationships with students and maintain an inclusive, respectful classroom environment
• Communicate regularly with families about academic progress, attendance, and behavior
• Participate in grade-level team planning and professional development activities
• Manage classroom materials, student records, and daily operations
• Perform duties requiring frequent standing, sitting, and occasional light lifting

What We're Looking For

• Valid Virginia elementary teaching license or ability to obtain licensure
• Knowledge of 2nd grade curriculum standards and best practices in elementary education
• Experience teaching young students and understanding of child development
• Strong communication skills with students, families, and professional colleagues
• Ability to create inclusive, culturally responsive classrooms
• Dedication to continuous professional improvement and collaborative teamwork
