Horizons For Homeless Children is seeking a Major Gifts Officer to lead major donor development efforts at our Roxbury, MA headquarters. In this full-time role, you'll build transformational relationships with high-capacity philanthropists and drive significant funding for our mission to support children and families experiencing homelessness in Massachusetts.

About the Role

As Major Gifts Officer, you'll serve as a key development professional responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts that fuel our impact. This is a full-time, exempt position with a starting salary range of $100,000–$125,000. Working directly with our AVP of Development, you'll identify and engage with individuals capable of making transformational contributions to our programs serving homeless children and their families across the Boston area.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and execute a strategic major gifts plan, identifying and qualifying prospective donors with capacity for significant contributions
  • Build and maintain deep relationships with existing and prospective major donors through meaningful engagement and personalized stewardship
  • Conduct research and due diligence on prospects to understand philanthropic interests, capacity, and connection to our mission
  • Prepare and deliver compelling case statements and funding proposals tailored to donor interests and organizational priorities
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, board members, and program staff to create engagement and solicitation opportunities
  • Track donor interactions and manage donor pipelines using donor database and CRM systems
  • Represent Horizons at community events, donor gatherings, and cultivation meetings
  • Report on major gifts pipeline progress and fundraising outcomes to leadership and board

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of major gifts fundraising or donor development experience in nonprofit, education, healthcare, or related sectors
  • Demonstrated success identifying, cultivating, and closing major gifts, typically $25,000 or above
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to connect authentically with individuals across backgrounds
  • Strong research, analytical, and strategic thinking abilities
  • Proficiency with donor databases and CRM platforms
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Passion for nonprofit work and commitment to advancing equity and opportunity for vulnerable populations
