About the Role
As Director of Development for Major Gifts and Planned Giving, you will lead comprehensive fundraising initiatives to secure transformational gifts and create meaningful planned giving opportunities for donors committed to Penn Medicine's vision. This role combines strategic relationship development with financial acumen to cultivate partnerships that directly impact patient outcomes, research innovation, and the next generation of physicians.
What You'll Do
- Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift prospects through strategic outreach, relationship building, and personalized engagement
- Develop and manage planned giving programs, including bequests, charitable annuities, charitable trusts, and other legacy giving vehicles
- Build and maintain relationships with high-net-worth individuals, foundations, and institutional donors aligned with Penn Medicine's priorities
- Create customized fundraising strategies and proposals that connect donor interests with institutional needs across patient care, research, and education
- Collaborate with clinical leadership, researchers, and institutional advancement colleagues to identify funding opportunities and articulate compelling case statements
- Manage gift pipelines, track donor interactions, and maintain accurate records in our development database systems
- Represent Penn Medicine at community events, board meetings, and donor engagement activities throughout Lancaster County and beyond
What We're Looking For
- Proven track record in major gifts and planned giving fundraising, ideally within healthcare, academic medicine, or similar nonprofit environments
- Deep understanding of planned giving vehicles, tax-advantaged giving strategies, and donor motivation
- Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills with ability to engage sophisticated, high-capacity donors
- Strategic thinking combined with strong organizational and project management abilities
- Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed fundraising goals and manage complex donor relationships
- Master's degree preferred; Bachelor's degree required
- Proficiency with donor database systems and customer relationship management platforms
