Southbridge Public Schools is hiring a full-time Athletic Trainer to join the Athletic Department in Southbridge, Worcester County. This position offers the opportunity to safeguard student-athlete health, prevent injuries, and support competitive athletics across our district.
Role Overview
The Athletic Trainer is the primary health care provider for our student-athletes, collaborating closely with coaches, school administrators, and medical professionals. Working from our Southbridge location, you'll deliver injury assessment, immediate care, rehabilitation planning, and prevention education to keep athletes healthy and performing at their best. You'll be the essential link between the athletic program and the broader medical community, ensuring every student-athlete receives evidence-based sports medicine support.
Responsibilities
- Assess and provide immediate care for athletic injuries sustained during practice and competition
- Develop and implement prevention strategies tailored to each sport and athlete population
- Create individualized rehabilitation plans for injured athletes and monitor return-to-play progression
- Maintain detailed clinical records documenting assessments, treatments, and outcomes
- Communicate injury information and safety protocols to athletes, families, and coaching staff
- Coordinate medical referrals and follow-up care with physicians and specialists
- Manage athletic training facilities, equipment, and emergency supplies
- Attend practices and competitions to provide on-site injury response and monitoring
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in athletic training from an accredited program
- Board of Certification (BOC) credential or current eligibility
- Current CPR and AED certification
- Massachusetts licensure or registration (or ability to obtain)
- Experience working with secondary school athletes
- Strong clinical assessment and communication abilities
- Proficiency in emergency protocols and athletic injury management
