About the Role

As a Public Safety Officer, you will support the college’s safety operations by monitoring campus activity, responding to incidents, and assisting with emergency procedures. The position works under the direction of supervisory staff and contributes to a secure learning environment for students, faculty, and visitors.

What You'll Do

• Conduct regular patrols of buildings, parking lots, and outdoor areas to deter and detect security concerns.
• Monitor surveillance systems and alarms, reporting any irregularities to the appropriate authorities.
• Respond promptly to disturbances, medical emergencies, and safety hazards, following established protocols.
• Assist with access control, including checking identification and managing visitor logs.
• Document incidents accurately in written reports and maintain logs for review by safety leadership.
• Provide directional assistance and safety information to members of the college community.
• Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services when needed.
• Participate in training sessions and drills to stay current on safety procedures and best practices.

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of experience as a police officer, security guard, or in a related safety role; preference given to candidates with experience in an educational setting.
• An Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field may be substituted for the required experience.
• Strong observation skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Effective communication abilities, both verbal and written, for interacting with diverse groups and preparing reports.
• Basic knowledge of campus safety procedures, emergency response, and conflict de‑escalation techniques.
• Reliability, integrity, and a commitment to upholding the college’s safety standards.
