About the Role

This full‑time position supports students with severe multiple impairments (SXI) and severe cognitive impairments (SCI) in a center‑based special education setting. The teacher designs and delivers instruction that meets each learner’s unique needs while fostering independence, communication, and academic growth.

What You'll Do

• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education programs (IEPs) aligned with state standards and student goals.
• Create adaptive lesson plans that incorporate sensory, communication, and functional skill development.
• Utilize assistive technology and specialized instructional strategies to promote student engagement.
• Collaborate with speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and school psychologists to provide integrated support.
• Conduct ongoing assessments, collect data, and adjust instructional approaches based on student progress.
• Maintain accurate records, complete required documentation, and ensure compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and district policies.
• Foster positive relationships with families, providing regular updates and guidance on supporting learning at home.
• Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school‑wide initiatives aimed at improving special education services.
• Manage classroom behavior through proactive strategies, positive behavior supports, and crisis intervention techniques as needed.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Severe Disabilities, or a closely related field.
• Valid teaching certification with an endorsement in Severe Multiple Impairments (SXI) and/or Severe Cognitive Impairments (SCI) for the state of Michigan (or equivalent certification recognized by reciprocity accepted for other states).
• Demonstrated experience working with students who have significant intellectual, physical, or sensory challenges.
• Proficiency with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices, adaptive equipment, and curriculum modifications.
• Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and families.
• Excellent organizational abilities, attention to detail, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
• Ability to adapt instruction in real time based on student responses and behavioral cues.
• A passion for fostering inclusive learning environments and promoting student dignity and independence.
