About the Role
As a middle school social studies teacher, you'll design and deliver engaging lessons that help students understand diverse perspectives, historical events, and contemporary social systems. You'll create an inclusive classroom environment where curiosity is encouraged and analytical thinking is developed across all learners.
What You'll Do
- Plan and organize comprehensive instructional programs aligned with state and district standards for social studies
- Implement age-appropriate lessons covering world history, U.S. history, civics, geography, and social sciences
- Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments, adjusting instruction to meet diverse learning needs
- Foster critical thinking and discussion-based learning that encourages students to engage with complex social topics
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary units and coordinate with other departments
- Maintain clear communication with families about student progress and classroom expectations
- Contribute to a positive school culture and participate in professional development opportunities
What We're Looking For
- Valid state teaching certification in social studies or related field
- Bachelor's degree or higher (required for public school teaching in most states)
- Demonstrated ability to engage middle school students and manage classroom dynamics
- Strong knowledge of social studies curriculum and instructional best practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Commitment to supporting all students, including English learners and students with disabilities
- Ability to use data to inform instruction and differentiate for learner needs
