About the Role
As Senior Counsel - Emerging Companies at General Legal, you'll serve as trusted legal counsel to dynamic startups and growth-stage enterprises. You'll handle the full scope of corporate legal matters using our AI-augmented approach to legal work, enabling you to deliver sophisticated advice faster and more reliably than traditional firms. This role combines deep legal judgment with modern technology to remove friction from the startup legal lifecycle.
What You'll Do
- Advise emerging companies on entity formation, governance structures, and capitalization strategy
- Guide seed, Series A, and later-stage fundraising rounds—from term sheet review through closing documentation
- Lead equity compensation design, including option plans, restricted stock frameworks, and equity documentation
- Conduct contract drafting and negotiation for customer agreements, vendor relationships, and strategic partnerships
- Provide counsel on regulatory compliance and business risk in growth-stage operations
- Work with AI-native workflows to accelerate legal deliverables while maintaining superior quality and predictability
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 8 years of corporate law experience, with significant focus on emerging company representation
- Admitted to practice as a U.S. attorney in good standing
- Proven expertise in startup corporate matters: formation, fundraising, cap table management, and equity compensation
- Strong negotiation skills and contract drafting proficiency
- Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal executives
- Intellectual curiosity about technology, AI, and innovative legal delivery models
- Demonstrated judgment and ability to work independently with minimal oversight
