Join the International Rescue Committee as an International Development and Humanitarian Expert, working from our New York City headquarters to advance transformative humanitarian initiatives globally. This full-time position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the IRC's mission of restoring health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and dignity to people affected by armed conflict and natural disaster across more than 40 countries worldwide.
About the Role
The International Rescue Committee seeks experienced professionals to support our international development and humanitarian response programs. As a member of our team in New York, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and evaluating initiatives that address urgent humanitarian needs and build resilience in vulnerable communities globally. This position bridges strategic planning with on-the-ground impact, enabling you to shape how the IRC responds to crises and supports long-term recovery.
What You'll Do
- Develop and refine humanitarian program strategies aligned with international best practices and donor requirements
- Coordinate with IRC teams across multiple countries to strengthen program delivery and outcomes
- Conduct assessments and research to identify priority needs in communities affected by conflict and disaster
- Support proposal development, program documentation, and monitoring frameworks
- Collaborate with government agencies, NGO partners, and international organizations to expand program reach and effectiveness
- Contribute to organizational learning and knowledge-sharing across IRC's global operations
What We're Looking For
- Advanced degree in international development, humanitarian affairs, public health, economics, or related field
- Demonstrated professional experience in humanitarian response, development programming, or related international work
- Strong analytical and project management capabilities
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders across cultures and operating environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Commitment to the humanitarian principles of neutrality, impartiality, independence, and humanity
