Director of External Affairs – Concept Schools Iowa Region

Join Concept Schools as the Director of External Affairs overseeing our Iowa Region, working across Horizon Science Academy Davenport, Cedar Rapids, and Des Moines. This full-time leadership position reports to the Superintendent and plays a critical role in advancing our mission to serve high-needs student populations through excellent science-focused charter education.

About the Role

As Director of External Affairs for Concept Schools' Iowa Region, you'll be the primary architect of our relationships with families, community organizations, district partners, and public stakeholders. You'll shape how the public understands and engages with our schools, manage communications that build trust, and cultivate partnerships that strengthen our ability to serve students and families across three school sites.

What You'll Do

• Lead all external communications, public relations, and community engagement initiatives across the Iowa Region campuses
• Develop and execute strategic communications plans that highlight school accomplishments and build community support
• Serve as primary liaison to district offices, local government, media, and community organizations
• Oversee family engagement programs, communications channels, and special events that strengthen school-community connection
• Represent Concept Schools at community meetings, school board events, and civic forums
• Manage stakeholder feedback and communications to support continuous improvement
• Work collaboratively with school leadership to ensure messaging consistency and brand integrity across all three Iowa locations

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of leadership experience in school communications, public affairs, community relations, or similar field
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse community stakeholders
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to craft clear, compelling messages for varied audiences
• Experience managing communications crises or sensitive issues with professionalism and transparency
• Knowledge of charter school operations, education policy, or nonprofit management preferred
• Ability to travel between the three Iowa school locations as needed
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in communications, public relations, or education administration
