About the Role
As a Special Education Physical Therapist with Somerville Public Schools, you will deliver educationally relevant physical therapy to students who have these services written into their Individualized Education Program (IEP). Working on-site in our Somerville schools, you will help students build the motor skills, strength, and independence they need to access classrooms, navigate their environment, and engage in daily school life.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess students referred for physical therapy and determine their educationally based needs.
- Plan and provide individualized therapy services that align with each student's IEP goals.
- Collaborate with teachers, families, and the special education team to support student progress.
- Document evaluations, progress, and outcomes in accordance with school and regulatory requirements.
- Recommend adaptive equipment, positioning strategies, and accommodations that improve access and participation.
Qualifications
- Current licensure to practice as a Physical Therapist in Massachusetts.
- Knowledge of educationally based physical therapy and the IEP process for students with disabilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary school team.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Commitment to serving a diverse student population in a school-based setting.
