Join Texas Southmost College in Austin as a Remediation and Retention Nursing Staff member, where you'll provide essential support to nursing students pursuing success in the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) and Vocational Nursing (VN) programs. This full-time, grant-funded position focuses on helping students overcome academic challenges, complete their programs, and achieve NCLEX certification.
About the Role
This position is dedicated to strengthening student persistence and academic achievement within our nursing programs. You will design and deliver targeted interventions at both the individual and group level, helping students master challenging content and maintain momentum through their studies.
What You'll Do
- Develop and implement remediation strategies to address gaps in nursing theory, laboratory skills, and simulation competencies
- Provide one-on-one academic coaching and mentoring to students at risk of attrition or struggling with program requirements
- Lead cohort-based study sessions, review workshops, and NCLEX preparation activities
- Assess student learning outcomes and adjust support interventions based on progress and feedback
- Collaborate with nursing faculty to identify students needing additional support and coordinate resources
- Track and document retention metrics, remediation efforts, and student outcome data
- Stay current with NCLEX standards and evidence-based nursing education practices
What We're Looking For
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) or Vocational Nurse (VN) license in Texas
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
- Strong knowledge of nursing content, exam preparation methodologies, and learning support strategies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to mentor and support diverse learners with varying academic backgrounds
- Proven organizational and data management abilities
- Genuine commitment to nursing education and student success
