About the Role

As Vice President of Animal Care, you will direct all aspects of the Aquarium's animal care operations, from daily husbandry to long-term welfare strategy. This position reports to senior leadership and serves as a key member of the executive team shaping the Aquarium's animal programs and conservation priorities.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and implement comprehensive animal care protocols, enrichment programs, and welfare standards across all Aquarium exhibits and facilities
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a skilled team of veterinarians, aquaculturists, and animal care specialists
  • Oversee animal health assessment, nutrition, medical care coordination, and preventative wellness initiatives
  • Collaborate with research, education, and curatorial teams to integrate animal care with conservation and public engagement
  • Allocate resources, manage budgets, and ensure operational efficiency in all animal care departments
  • Stay current with marine biology advances, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements
  • Represent the Aquarium's animal care excellence to partners, accrediting bodies, and the public

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in marine biology, animal science, zoology, or related field; advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in animal care, aquarium operations, or marine animal management
  • Demonstrated expertise in marine animal husbandry, health protocols, and welfare standards
  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to build, mentor, and inspire diverse teams
  • Strategic mindset with experience in program development, budgeting, and operational planning
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across multiple departments and external stakeholders
