The School District of Philadelphia is hiring a SY 26-27 Classroom Assistant for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students — a full-time, on-site role for compassionate paraprofessionals fluent in American Sign Language who want to make a direct difference in students' learning.

About the Role

As a Classroom Assistant supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing students with the School District of Philadelphia, you will work alongside teachers and specialists to remove communication barriers and help every student access the curriculum. This is a full-time position based in the United States for the 2026-2027 school year, and it is not a remote opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use American Sign Language to facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers throughout the school day.
  • Provide individualized instructional and behavioral support to school-age students who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Reinforce lessons and assist students in completing classroom activities and assignments.
  • Partner with educators and support staff to create an inclusive, accessible learning environment.
  • Help maintain a structured, encouraging classroom that promotes student independence and growth.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Successful completion of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Highly Qualified assessment.
  • Two years of full-time, paid experience supporting school-age children or adults with disabilities, including those with hearing impairments who rely on American Sign Language — or three years of comparable volunteer experience.
  • Working proficiency in American Sign Language and the ability to communicate clearly with Deaf and hard of hearing students.
