Staff Accountant

Oceaneering is seeking a Staff Accountant for a full-time position based in Chesapeake, Chesapeake City. In this opportunity you will apply solid accounting judgment and systems know-how so that timekeeping, labor, and payable transactions run accurately and efficiently every day.

About the Role

As Staff Accountant you become the primary point of expertise for how Time & Labor and Accounts Payable (AP) systems are configured and operated. You combine rigorous accounting principles with a practical understanding of how those platforms work so that financial data stays clean, compliant, and useful for the wider team. Day-to-day you collaborate with colleagues in IT, human resources, payroll, and procurement to keep processes smooth and to resolve issues before they affect reporting or vendor relationships.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the operational setup and ongoing accuracy of Time & Labor and Accounts Payable systems so every transaction posts correctly and on schedule.
• Apply advanced accounting knowledge to validate financial processing results, detect anomalies, and maintain strong internal controls and compliance standards.
• Work side-by-side with IT, HR, Payroll, and procurement colleagues to align system settings with business needs and to clear bottlenecks quickly.
• Support continuous improvement of operational efficiency by documenting processes, recommending configuration refinements, and ensuring users understand system impacts on the general ledger.
• Produce or review related accounting entries and reconciliations that keep the books current and audit-ready.

• Proven ability to act as a subject-matter resource for Time & Labor and Accounts Payable platforms in a production environment.
• Comfort collaborating across IT, HR, Payroll, and procurement functions to deliver accurate results and process improvements.
• Attention to detail that ensures compliance and protects the integrity of financial data.
• Clear communication skills that help translate technical system settings into practical guidance for finance and operations stakeholders.
