Senior Software Engineer, Windows/Desktop Applications

Speechify is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Windows/Desktop Applications in Berlin, Germany, to lead the craft of native Windows experiences used by readers around the world. If you love building polished, accessible desktop software in C# and XAML, this role puts you at the architectural center of our Windows product.

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer on Speechify's Windows desktop team, you will own the architecture and direction of our native Windows applications. This is a full-time position based in Berlin, Germany, where your technical decisions will directly shape what millions of people see, hear, and rely on every day.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and build native Windows desktop apps with the Windows App SDK, WinUI (or comparable UI frameworks), C#, XAML, and C++ where it's the right tool.
• Establish and uphold engineering standards for performance, memory efficiency, responsive interfaces, maintainability, and compatibility across Windows 10/11 and beyond.
• Champion accessibility by implementing and verifying support through Microsoft UI Automation and related frameworks, covering focus handling, keyboard navigation, and screen-reader compatibility.
• Partner with designers, UX researchers, QA, and product stakeholders to plan features and steer the long-term Windows roadmap.
• Carry features through their entire lifecycle, from concept and design to implementation, testing, release, and ongoing support.
• Investigate and resolve difficult defects, rendering glitches, memory leaks, and performance constraints with durable architectural fixes.

Qualifications

• 3+ years building Windows desktop applications with Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML; native experience (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM) is a strong plus.
• Solid grasp of Windows application architecture, including managed-to-native interop with.NET.
• A history of shipping reliable, scalable, production-grade desktop software.
• Hands-on experience with Windows accessibility APIs and a genuine commitment to inclusive design.
• Strong fundamentals in OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and asynchronous or multithreaded programming.
• Proven leadership through technical design, mentoring, code reviews, and clear cross-functional communication.
• Bonus: UI test automation, performance tuning, localization and RTL support, telemetry and crash reporting, and CI/CD for desktop apps.
