The Opportunity

We are seeking a creative and experienced mechanical engineering manager to lead the design and delivery of the ARC vacuum vessel. As part of our mission to deliver urgent transition to fusion energy, you will play a crucial role in designing a critical component of the world's first fusion power plant. The vacuum vessel is a hundred-ton mechanical structure that surrounds the fusion plasma, must withstand extreme heat fluxes on the plasma-facing side and effectively remove this heat via flowing molten salt on the other side of the vessel. Additionally, it must be replaceable via a remote handling system during regular maintenance cycles.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of the ARC vacuum vessel within the ARC tokamak
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful integration of the vacuum vessel into the overall plant design
• Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
• Manage project timelines and budgets for the vacuum vessel development
• Mentor and lead a team of mechanical engineers in their professional growth

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for an experienced mechanical engineering manager with a proven track record in leading complex design projects. You should have a deep understanding of vacuum vessel design, experience in fusion energy or related industries, and a strong background in mechanical engineering principles. A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred. Additionally, you must possess excellent leadership skills, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and a commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.
