Senior Full Stack Engineer

Inversion is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join our team in Playa Vista, California. In this full-time role, you will design and develop internal software tools that empower our engineering teams to innovate and operate more effectively.

The Opportunity

You'll be part of Inversion's Internal Software Tools team, working directly with the Director of Software to build end-to-end applications that support complex engineering workflows. We're creating an opportunity for a technically skilled engineer to shape what internal software excellence looks like at a space technology company. You will own projects from conception through deployment, working in an environment where your decisions directly impact how hundreds of engineers solve problems every day.

Your Responsibilities

• Architect and develop full-stack applications, from responsive user interfaces to production backend services that support internal workflows.
• Build intuitive interfaces designed specifically for technical users, prioritizing functionality, usability, and performance.
• Create robust backend systems and APIs that power dashboards, documentation platforms, data analysis tools, and AI-assisted workflows.
• Define requirements and technical approaches working closely with engineering teams across the company to identify high-impact problems and translate them into software solutions.
• Establish best practices for internal tool development, including system architecture, quality assurance, testing strategies, and long-term maintainability.
• Lead the complete lifecycle of internal applications, from design through maintenance and iteration based on user feedback.

Who We're Looking For

• Five or more years building and shipping production software systems professionally.
• Expert-level front-end skills with TypeScript and JavaScript, with proven experience using modern frameworks like React.
• Solid backend development background with languages such as Python, Node.js, or Go; experience building APIs and services.
• Mastery of core software engineering practices: system architecture, test design, problem-solving, code excellence, and long-term maintainability.
• Comfort working in Linux environments and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
• Ability to thrive in high-ambiguity settings where requirements evolve, priorities shift, and you define scope with ownership and initiative.
• U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or eligibility to obtain required authorizations for ITAR-controlled technology work.

You may be asked to work extended hours or weekends occasionally as needs require.

Desired experience includes building internal software for technical teams (such as test platforms, data review systems, or workflow automation—aerospace experience is a bonus), integrating AI capabilities into user interfaces, database design and data modeling, containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes, or having worked in startup or small-team environments where you drove your own technical direction.
