Security/Systems Administrator

Nwis is seeking a dedicated Security/Systems Administrator to join our team in Sterling, VA. As a full-time member of our technical operations group, you'll be responsible for safeguarding our infrastructure and ensuring systems run smoothly for our organization.

The Security/Systems Administrator role is central to protecting Nwis's technical environment. In this position, you'll manage system configurations, enforce security policies, respond to infrastructure challenges, and help maintain the reliability and safety of our networks. Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain servers, workstations, and network devices to support business operations
• Implement and monitor security controls, access policies, and authentication systems across the infrastructure
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and directory services to ensure appropriate access levels
• Monitor system performance, logs, and alerts; identify and resolve issues proactively
• Apply security patches, updates, and hardening measures to protect against vulnerabilities
• Respond to security incidents and coordinate with stakeholders during system outages
• Document system configurations, procedures, and maintain up-to-date records for auditing and compliance

Who We're Looking For

• 2–5+ years of hands-on experience administering Windows and/or Linux systems
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, firewalls, and secure access protocols
• Familiarity with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and user access management
• Experience with security best practices, threat assessment, and incident response
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical teams
• Relevant certifications such as Security+, CISSP, or equivalent are a plus
