Senior Mechanical Engineer

About This Position

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Nwis in Springfield, Virginia, you will drive the design and development of mechanical systems from conception through production. You'll balance hands-on engineering work with technical leadership, taking ownership of complex projects while guiding junior engineers. This role puts you at the center of our engineering strategy, where your decisions shape both our products and our team's technical direction.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical systems and components using advanced CAD software and engineering tools
• Conduct structural analysis, finite element modeling, and performance validation to ensure design integrity
• Lead mechanical engineering projects from initial concept through testing and deployment
• Oversee prototype development, testing protocols, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems
• Mentor and supervise junior engineers, fostering technical growth and adherence to engineering standards
• Ensure all designs meet applicable industry codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to optimize producibility and reliability
• Document designs, prepare technical reports, and present findings to stakeholders

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field
• Minimum 7+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience
• Expert proficiency with CAD software such as SOLIDWORKS, AutoCAD, or equivalent platforms
• Demonstrated experience with mechanical design, analysis, and materials engineering
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tolerancing, and assembly design
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit of licensure
• Strong analytical skills with ability to solve complex technical problems
• Leadership experience and proven ability to mentor and develop other engineers
