National BRT & Multimodal Design Lead

CDM Smith is seeking a National BRT & Multimodal Design Lead to join our team in East Derry. In this full-time role, you'll lead the planning and design of bus rapid transit and integrated multimodal transportation systems that connect communities across the country.

About the Role

As our National BRT & Multimodal Design Lead, you'll oversee the conception, development, and delivery of transit solutions that balance operational efficiency, user experience, and community impact. You'll work on complex projects spanning feasibility studies, system design, infrastructure planning, and implementation strategies. This leadership position offers the opportunity to influence how people move and shape transportation networks that serve diverse populations and geographies.

What You'll Do

• Lead design initiatives for bus rapid transit corridors and multimodal networks at a national scale
• Collaborate with municipalities, transit agencies, and stakeholders to define project vision and requirements
• Direct technical teams through planning phases, from concept through detailed design
• Synthesize data, community input, and best practices into integrated transportation solutions
• Manage project budgets, timelines, and quality standards
• Mentor junior staff and foster a culture of innovation and excellence
• Stay current with evolving transit technologies, design standards, and regulatory frameworks

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, transportation planning, or related field (Master's preferred)
• 10+ years of professional experience in transit planning, design, or engineering
• Demonstrated leadership managing complex multimodal projects
• Strong knowledge of bus rapid transit systems, infrastructure design, and operations
• Expertise in transportation planning software and GIS tools
• Excellent communication skills with technical teams and non-technical stakeholders
• PE licensure or ability to obtain it preferred
