Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (CapMetro) is hiring a Manager, SMS and Occupational Health and Safety in Austin, Travis County to lead and strengthen the agency's safety culture across every level of the organization.
About the Role
As the Manager, SMS and Occupational Health and Safety, you will own the day-to-day stewardship of CapMetro's Safety Management Systems (SMS) and report directly to the Director, Safety. This full-time, on-site position in Austin places you at the center of agency-wide safety operations, where you will guide program delivery, drive continuous improvement, and serve as a trusted resource on occupational health and safety matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and continually advance CapMetro's Safety Management Systems throughout the organization.
- Build strong working relationships with departments and stakeholders across the agency to support a unified approach to safety.
- Promote regulatory compliance and uphold occupational health and safety standards in everyday operations.
- Partner with leadership and frontline teams to identify risks, recommend controls, and reinforce a proactive safety mindset.
- Support the Director, Safety in shaping policies, processes, and initiatives that protect employees and the riding public.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated background in Safety Management Systems (SMS), occupational health and safety, or a closely related discipline.
- Working knowledge of applicable safety regulations and compliance requirements.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven ability to manage safety programs and influence a positive, accountable safety culture.
