About the Role

As a Librarian III, you'll lead library operations and information services across one or more correctional facilities on Oahu. You'll manage collections, oversee library technology, and develop programming that supports literacy, education, and personal development within the constraints and priorities of a secure facility.

What You'll Do

  • Manage library collections, acquisitions, and resource allocation while adhering to security and facility policies
  • Provide research assistance, reference services, and reading recommendations to inmates and correctional staff
  • Select and curate materials across formats—books, periodicals, digital resources, and educational media—appropriate for the correctional setting
  • Develop and deliver literacy programs, legal research assistance, and educational initiatives that support inmate rehabilitation
  • Maintain library systems, databases, and technology infrastructure; oversee circulation and material organization
  • Train library staff and coordinate with education and counseling departments to align library services with facility goals
  • Ensure all operations comply with state correctional policies, security protocols, and library standards

What We're Looking For

  • Master's degree in Library Science or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program
  • Professional experience in library management, collection development, or information services
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in specialized or security-sensitive environments
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to serve diverse populations with different literacy and educational levels
  • Proficiency with library management systems and basic computer applications
  • Commitment to public service and the rehabilitation mission of correctional education

Compensation and Details

Full-time position. Salary: $5,354 to $6,331 per month (SR-20, Step D to I), including Shortage Category Differential. Recruitment Number: 24-0268.
