Legal Analyst

Join City of Kent as a Full-Time Legal Analyst and contribute directly to the municipal operations that serve Charlottesville City residents, business community, and visitors. We're seeking a skilled paraprofessional who combines advanced legal knowledge with technical expertise to support our government's compliance, research, and administrative needs.

About the Role

As our Legal Analyst, you'll perform specialized research, analysis, and technical support across city departments. Your work will ensure regulatory compliance, support legal decision-making, and maintain the records and systems that keep municipal government running effectively. This is a hands-on position where attention to detail and legal acumen directly impact city operations.

What You'll Do

• Conduct legal research on municipal statutes, ordinances, case law, and regulatory requirements
• Review and analyze contracts, agreements, and legal documents for city departments
• Prepare memoranda, summaries, and briefing materials for legal and administrative staff
• Support compliance with state and federal regulations across city functions
• Maintain legal files, records management systems, and research databases
• Assist with legislative analysis and policy review
• Coordinate document preparation and filing for municipal proceedings
• Support due diligence and background research for city initiatives

What We're Looking For

• Paralegal certificate or equivalent professional legal training and experience
• Advanced skills in legal research, writing, and document analysis
• Proficiency with legal databases, word processing, and database management systems
• Knowledge of municipal government, public administration, or administrative law
• Strong organizational skills and attention to accuracy and detail
• Ability to communicate complex legal information clearly to diverse audiences
• Professional judgment and discretion handling confidential materials
