The Opportunity
At Hardin-Simmons University (HSU), we are seeking a dedicated and passionate Peer Academic Coach to join our team in the Strategic Learning Initiative (SLI) program. This full-time position will be based in Abilene, Texas, supporting the academic success of students through direct coaching and collaboration with SLI instructors.
Core Duties
- Assist Strategic Learning Initiative (SLI) Instructors by providing individualized support to students, including tutoring, study skills development, and academic planning.
- Facilitate small group sessions and workshops focused on enhancing student learning strategies and promoting self-regulated learning.
- Develop and maintain a positive, inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and success.
- Collaborate with SLI instructors to identify areas of need for students and implement targeted interventions.
- Provide feedback and support to students on their academic progress and help them set and achieve personal educational goals.
Skills & Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required, with coursework in education or related fields preferred.
- Demonstrated experience as a peer academic coach, tutor, or similar role within higher education settings.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with students, faculty, and staff.
- A commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment that supports diverse student populations.
