About the Role
As a Housing Navigator for our shelter operations, you'll serve as a bridge between individuals experiencing housing instability and the resources, programs, and supportive services they need. This is hands-on, client-centered work that combines advocacy, resource connection, and care coordination to help people move from crisis toward stability.
What You'll Do
- Conduct intake assessments to understand each client's housing history, barriers, strengths, and goals
- Connect clients to housing options, rental assistance, benefits programs, and community resources tailored to their circumstances
- Develop individualized housing plans and guide clients through applications, lease negotiations, and move-in processes
- Maintain detailed case notes and documentation to track progress, service coordination, and outcomes
- Provide crisis support and advocacy to help clients navigate housing systems and overcome barriers
- Collaborate with shelter staff, housing providers, social service agencies, and community partners to ensure comprehensive support
- Contribute to team meetings and the continuous improvement of housing navigation services
What We're Looking For
- Experience working with homeless or housing-insecure populations, in case management, social services, or community outreach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build trust with people from diverse backgrounds
- Problem-solving orientation and resilience in working within complex, resource-constrained situations
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to accurate documentation
- Familiarity with Santa Barbara County housing resources and benefits systems (preferred)
- Genuine commitment to dignity, empowerment, and ending homelessness
Position Details
Employment Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Schedule: Sunday–Thursday, 10:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m.
Pay Rate: $22.50–$23.00 per hour
Benefits: 100% coverage of base tier medical premium; voluntary dental and vision insurance; paid time off
