The University of Alabama at Birmingham Portal seeks a doctoral-level research faculty member for the Heersink School of Medicine's Department of Family and Community Medicine. The Opportunity
Are you a researcher driven to advance primary care delivery and improve community health outcomes? The Department of Family and Community Medicine at the Heersink School of Medicine invites accomplished researchers to join our faculty and build a rigorous research program. This role combines scholarly investigation with faculty mentorship and direct engagement in the academic mission. You'll collaborate with interdisciplinary teams while conducting meaningful research that addresses real-world health challenges and translates evidence into practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead research initiatives examining primary care delivery systems and health outcomes
- Investigate health disparities and their underlying causes in vulnerable and underserved populations
- Conduct health services research and publish peer-reviewed findings to advance the field
- Explore behavioral health, chronic disease management, and prevention strategies in primary care settings
- Evaluate emerging digital health technologies and their integration into primary care practice
- Mentor junior faculty, fellows, residents, and students in research methodology and academic writing
- Pursue extramural funding and contribute to the department's research mission and visibility
What You Bring
- Doctoral degree (MD, PhD, or DrPH) with demonstrated research capability
- Established track record of research productivity or exceptional promise as an emerging researcher
- Peer-reviewed publications and evidence of scholarly engagement in primary care research
- Expertise in research methodology, statistical analysis, and evidence evaluation
- Strong commitment to addressing health equity and social determinants of health
- Collaborative approach and excellent communication across clinical and research disciplines
