Join MidState Medical Center as a Graduate Nurse in our Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at our Barry Square location in Hartford County. This full-time position is specifically designed for newly licensed registered nurses ready to launch their nursing careers with comprehensive clinical support and mentorship.
About the Role
You'll work three 12-hour shifts per week in our Progressive Care Unit, providing direct patient care during evening and overnight hours (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM). Your schedule includes every third weekend and every third holiday rotation, balancing professional responsibility with personal time. This role is structured to help new graduates transition confidently into independent nursing practice within a supportive team environment.
What You'll Do
- Provide direct patient care and monitoring in a progressive care setting
- Assess vital signs, administer medications, and maintain accurate clinical documentation
- Collaborate with experienced nurses, physicians, and interprofessional care teams
- Respond to patient needs and advocate for safety within the clinical environment
- Build foundational skills in prioritization, communication, and clinical judgment
- Engage in ongoing learning through unit orientation and professional development
What We're Looking For
- Current Connecticut RN license required
- Recent nursing graduate or newly licensed registered nurse
- Strong foundational clinical assessment and critical thinking abilities
- Willingness to learn, seek guidance, and contribute as a team member
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Physical capability to perform nursing duties in a hospital setting
