Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiothoracic Open Heart

Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center is recruiting a Registered Nurse (RN) for our Cardiothoracic Open Heart team in Johnstown, Cambria County. This full-time position is ideal for experienced RNs seeking a specialized role in one of healthcare's most critical surgical specialties.

About the Role

As a Cardiothoracic RN, you'll support complex open heart surgical procedures, providing direct patient care before, during, and after surgery. You'll work variable shift schedules, including 8 and 10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday. You'll maintain readiness for open heart call and are prepared to float to the main operating room when cardiac cases are not scheduled.

What You'll Do

• Prepare and maintain cardiothoracic surgical equipment and supplies
• Monitor patient vitals and responses during open heart procedures
• Assist surgeons and surgical teams with precise instrument handling and positioning
• Manage post-operative care and patient recovery in intensive care settings
• Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes with accuracy
• Collaborate with cardiologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical teams
• Respond to emergency cardiac cases and open heart call situations
• Float to main OR to support other surgical procedures as scheduled

What We're Looking For

• Current RN license in Pennsylvania
• At least 2 years of operating room or acute care nursing experience
• Certification in ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support); CNOR or similar cardiothoracic certification preferred
• Strong knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and open heart surgical protocols
• Ability to work variable schedules and on-call requirements
• Excellent communication and team collaboration skills
• Detail-oriented with strong critical thinking abilities
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift or assist patients
