About the Role
As an adjunct faculty member in special education, you'll deliver instruction to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing careers in special education. This part-time teaching position allows you to shape emerging educators who will serve students with diverse learning needs across Illinois and beyond.
What You'll Do
- Teach special education coursework required for SPED endorsement certification
- Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans aligned with state special education standards
- Assess student learning and provide constructive feedback on coursework and teaching practice
- Mentor education majors through their teaching practicum and clinical experiences
- Collaborate with full-time faculty on curriculum design and program improvement
- Maintain current knowledge of special education law, inclusive practices, and evidence-based interventions
What We're Looking For
- Master's degree in Special Education, Education, or related field
- Current Illinois teaching license with SPED endorsement (or equivalent)
- Minimum three years of classroom teaching experience in special education
- Strong communication skills and ability to model best practices for pre-service teachers
- Commitment to preparing educators who serve students from diverse backgrounds and abilities
- Availability to teach one or more courses per term as assigned
