Director Of Special Education

The Learning Community in Central Falls, Providence County, is seeking a full-time Director of Special Education to lead our special education program and ensure students with learning disabilities receive the individualized support and quality instruction they need to thrive academically and socially.

About the Role

You'll serve as Director of Special Education at this public charter school, overseeing all special education services and working alongside a dedicated, collaborative team. With part-time administrative support, you'll focus on program strategy and leadership. In this role, you'll champion a student-centered approach that values the voices of learners, families, and educators within our school community.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement comprehensive special education programs compliant with IDEA, Section 504, and Rhode Island special education regulations
• Lead the IEP development process, ensuring individualized plans reflect each student's learning needs and goals
• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate special education staff to maintain high standards of instruction and support
• Partner with classroom teachers to foster inclusive practices and differentiated instruction across all grade levels
• Analyze student data and progress monitoring results to guide instructional and support decisions
• Manage special education budgets, staffing, and resource allocation
• Advocate for students with disabilities and remove barriers to full participation in school programs
• Maintain accurate IEP and compliance documentation

What We're Looking For

• Valid Rhode Island certification as Director of Special Education or Special Education Administrator
• Demonstrated leadership experience in special education or direct experience teaching students with learning disabilities
• Strong understanding of IDEA, Section 504, and state regulations governing special education
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and staff
• Genuine passion for inclusive, student-centered education and continuous program improvement
• Experience with special education assessment, data analysis, and progress monitoring systems
• Collaborative approach and comfort working in a charter school culture
