Position Summary

As a Deputy City Attorney focused on public finance, you will serve as legal counsel to the City and County of San Francisco on complex municipal financial matters. Working with city departments, agencies, and officials, you'll navigate the intersection of municipal finance law, bond issuance, budgetary compliance, and public finance regulations that govern San Francisco's financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice to city departments and officials on public finance matters, including bond issuances, financial contracts, and municipal debt instruments
• Review and analyze financial agreements, municipal bonds, and budgetary documents for legal compliance
• Counsel the city on municipal finance law, Prop 13 implications, and constitutional and statutory requirements affecting city finances
• Participate in the structuring and documentation of financial transactions and city borrowing
• Advise on pension and retirement benefit legal issues affecting the city's financial planning
• Collaborate with the Mayor's Office, Board of Supervisors, Controller, Treasurer, and other city entities on financial and legal strategy

What You Bring

• Juris Doctor degree and active California bar license in good standing
• Demonstrated experience in municipal finance law, public finance, or related government legal practice
• Strong knowledge of bond law, municipal debt, and public finance regulatory frameworks
• Experience with contract review, legal analysis, and opinion writing
• Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to non-attorney stakeholders
• Commitment to public service and the City and County of San Francisco's mission
