Kentucky Community and Technical College System seeks a Dean of Health Science to lead academic excellence and student success at Big Sandy Community & Technical College in Prestonsburg, Floyd County. This full-time, 12-month leadership position shapes health science education and workforce development across our region.
About the Role
You will provide strategic leadership for all health science programs at the Prestonsburg campus, guiding curriculum innovation, faculty excellence, student outcomes, and program accreditation while fostering partnerships with Kentucky's healthcare employers and regional medical facilities.
What You'll Do
- Lead all health science degree and certificate programs, including nursing, allied health, and clinical support disciplines
- Develop and execute strategies to strengthen student recruitment, retention, and completion in health science fields
- Hire, mentor, and evaluate health science faculty and staff; foster continuous professional development
- Design and maintain curricula aligned with industry standards, accreditation requirements, and emerging healthcare workforce needs
- Manage program budgets and resources to ensure instructional quality and operational sustainability
- Build collaborative relationships with hospitals, clinics, healthcare systems, and employers throughout Floyd County and Eastern Kentucky
- Ensure compliance with regional and national accrediting bodies; support quality assurance initiatives
- Champion student success through accessible, inclusive, and equitable learning environments
What We're Looking For
- Master's degree required; advanced credentials in nursing, health science, or related field preferred
- 5+ years of leadership experience in higher education, healthcare delivery, or health professions instruction
- Proven expertise in academic program development, accreditation management, and institutional assessment
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and conflict-resolution skills
- Commitment to student-centered learning, equity, and inclusive excellence
- Understanding of regional healthcare workforce trends and Kentucky's healthcare landscape
- Ability to manage complex priorities, work independently, and lead cross-functional teams
