Join DHA as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (GS-0644-11) in San Diego, San Diego County. This is a full-time position with the Directorate of Clinical Support at Naval Medical Center San Diego, where you'll perform advanced clinical laboratory testing and analysis to support patient care across a major military medical facility.

About the Role

As a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, you'll conduct complex laboratory examinations and analyses of patient specimens including blood, body fluids, and tissues. Working in a high-volume clinical environment, you'll operate and maintain sophisticated diagnostic instruments, ensure rigorous quality control, and report findings that directly impact clinical decision-making and patient outcomes. Your technical expertise and attention to detail are essential to the laboratory's mission.

What You'll Do

• Perform clinical laboratory testing and analysis on diverse specimen types using advanced analytical equipment
• Execute and interpret results in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, and other laboratory disciplines
• Maintain strict quality assurance and quality control procedures in compliance with CLIA regulations and military standards
• Document findings accurately and communicate results to clinical staff in a timely manner
• Troubleshoot and resolve instrument malfunctions and technical issues
• May supervise and train laboratory technician staff and ensure adherence to protocols
• Contribute to laboratory efficiency and maintain a safe working environment

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or related field
• Professional certification (ASCP, HEW, or equivalent) in clinical laboratory science
• Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, safety protocols, and quality standards
• Experience with laboratory instrumentation and information systems
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a Secret security clearance
