Vaxcyte, a clinical-stage vaccine innovation company in San Carlos, California, is seeking a full-time Associate Director of Data and Knowledge Management to lead enterprise-wide data governance and knowledge management initiatives. You'll build the systems and frameworks that enable faster, better-informed decisions across development, clinical, regulatory, and operational functions in our mission to protect humankind from serious bacterial infections.

About the Role

As we expand our clinical operations and process development capabilities, we need a strategic leader to establish how we structure, manage, and leverage our scientific and operational data. This role is pivotal to maintaining data integrity throughout our regulatory submissions, clinical trials, and manufacturing processes. You'll design and implement systems that enable our cross-functional teams—from research and development through quality and regulatory affairs—to access, trust, and act on high-quality data while meeting strict compliance requirements in a dynamic clinical-stage environment.

Core Duties

  • Direct data governance strategy and establish enterprise standards for data quality, access, and security across manufacturing, development, clinical, and regulatory functions
  • Lead data collection and verification efforts across our supply chain and manufacturing partners to support process monitoring, regulatory submissions, and continuous operational improvement
  • Own the design and implementation of knowledge management systems and workflows that capture organizational learning, protocols, study results, lessons learned, and key decision rationales
  • Collaborate with regulatory, quality, research, IT, and contract manufacturing teams to identify data needs and deploy integrated, scalable solutions
  • Build systems that enable rapid access to high-quality data for operational decision-making and partner with our data science team to drive analytics, visualization, and actionable insights
  • Ensure all data and knowledge management practices comply with GDPR, HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11, and other applicable regulations, with responsibility for identifying and mitigating data security and retention risks
  • Lead and mentor a team of data professionals, analysts, and knowledge specialists

Who We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree (minimum 14 years' experience), Master's degree (11+ years), or Ph.D. (9+ years) in Life Sciences, Data Science, Information Management, or a related field
  • Minimum 8 years of hands-on data and/or knowledge management experience, with at least 3 years in a life sciences or biotech organization
  • Demonstrated success leading enterprise data governance programs in highly regulated industries
  • Solid project management and cross-functional communication skills with the ability to influence scientific and operational leaders
  • Proficiency with enterprise tools such as SharePoint, Veeva Vault, Confluence, Tableau, or SQL
  • Experience managing clinical trial data and supporting regulatory submissions (IND, BLA) is strongly preferred
  • Background in immunology, vaccines, or infectious disease development is highly preferred
  • Experience scaling data systems and processes within high-growth, early-stage biotech environments is preferred
