About the Role

As Assistant Director of Public Works and Environmental Services, you'll partner closely with the Director and Deputy Director of General Services to oversee operations, planning, and execution of the county's environmental and utility programs. You'll bridge strategic planning with day-to-day management, ensuring infrastructure resilience, regulatory compliance, and fiscal responsibility across multiple departments and public-facing services.

What You'll Do

• Supervise and develop staff across environmental services, water management, and stormwater operations
• Guide long-range planning and capital improvement strategies for water, wastewater, and environmental infrastructure
• Manage departmental budgets, grant opportunities, and resource allocation
• Ensure compliance with federal and state environmental regulations and permit requirements
• Coordinate interdepartmental projects and initiatives with planning, engineering, and community services
• Lead public engagement and stakeholder communication on environmental and infrastructure projects
• Evaluate and recommend policy improvements for sustainability, energy efficiency, and environmental stewardship

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in environmental science, civil engineering, public administration, or related field
• 5+ years of experience in environmental management, public works, water resources, or related municipal services
• Proven leadership and staff development experience
• Strong project management and budget oversight capabilities
• Knowledge of environmental compliance, water quality standards, and stormwater management best practices
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for internal and public-facing roles
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments and prioritize competing operational demands
