After School Counselor – Club J at the MJCCA

Join Marcus Jewish Community Center Of Atl as an After School Counselor for Club J, our vibrant after-school program in North Springs, DeKalb County. This part-time position offers the opportunity to mentor young learners, foster positive relationships, and create a safe, enriching environment for elementary-age children.

About the Role

Club J serves more than 220 children annually in Pre-K through 5th grade, making it one of the region's most dynamic after-school communities. As an After School Counselor, you'll play a key role in supporting children's social, emotional, and behavioral development during their afternoon hours at the center. You'll work directly with students in a structured yet creative setting, helping them navigate friendships, manage challenges, and build confidence both in and out of the classroom.

What You'll Do

• Supervise and engage children in a welcoming, safe after-school environment
• Build trusting one-on-one relationships and facilitate group activities that promote teamwork and inclusion
• Respond to behavioral needs with patience, consistency, and age-appropriate guidance
• Support children's social and emotional learning through mentoring and positive reinforcement
• Collaborate with parents, classroom teachers, and program leadership to ensure children's wellbeing
• Maintain organized records and communicate program updates to families
• Participate in program planning and community-building activities throughout the school year

What We're Looking For

• Genuine passion for working with children ages Pre-K through 5th grade
• Strong communication skills and ability to connect authentically with young learners
• Patience, reliability, and a positive, solution-focused approach to challenges
• Experience in education, childcare, counseling, or youth-serving environments (preferred)
• Ability to work Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM–6:00 PM with flexibility during school-year programming
• High school diploma or equivalent; certification in child development or related field is a plus
• A commitment to the values of community, inclusion, and child-centered care
