Join HHDC as an Affordable Housing Recertification Specialist in Polish Downtown, Chicago. We're looking for a bilingual professional to help verify ongoing eligibility for families living in our affordable housing communities, ensuring they receive the housing support they qualify for.

About the Role

As a full-time Recertification Specialist, you'll be the bridge between our residents and their housing stability. This position focuses on annual and interim recertifications—reviewing income documentation, household composition changes, and program eligibility to ensure families continue to access affordable housing at the right subsidy levels. You'll work directly with residents, manage detailed files, and communicate clearly across language barriers to support our community's housing security.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct income verifications and eligibility recertifications for residents in affordable housing programs
  • Collect and review financial documentation, employment records, and household information
  • Interview residents in English and Spanish to gather recertification data and answer housing program questions
  • Maintain accurate records and case files in compliance with program requirements
  • Process recertification paperwork and coordinate with management on rent adjustments and program changes
  • Identify and support residents facing hardship or program non-compliance issues
  • Track recertification deadlines and manage caseload scheduling efficiently

What We're Looking For

  • Fluent bilingual ability in English and Spanish (written and spoken)
  • Experience with income verification, eligibility determination, or similar administrative work in housing or social services
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with documentation
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with diverse populations
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with deadlines
  • Professional demeanor and commitment to supporting low-income families
  • Proficiency with computer systems and willingness to learn new software
