As a full-time member of the Division of Genetic Medicine & Clinical Pharmacology, the successful candidate will pursue inquiry-driven projects, generate and interpret data, and help translate basic findings into deeper scientific understanding. The position is on-site in Nashville and emphasizes rigorous experimental work, clear communication of results, and close partnership with colleagues across related scientific areas.

Core Duties

• Design, lead, and carry out well-controlled experiments exploring genetic mechanisms and pharmacological responses
• Collect, organize, and statistically evaluate experimental results using established laboratory and computational approaches
• Draft manuscripts, progress reports, and scientific presentations that communicate discoveries from the Division of Genetic Medicine & Clinical Pharmacology
• Partner with fellow researchers, clinicians, and technical staff inside Vumc to strengthen multi-disciplinary projects
• Guide junior scientists, research staff, and trainees in proper laboratory methods and experimental best practices
• Uphold detailed research documentation and adhere to all institutional laboratory safety and compliance requirements
• Assist with conceptualizing and refining research aims for future investigations and funding efforts

What You Bring

• Doctoral-level training (PhD or equivalent) in genetics, pharmacology, molecular biology, or a closely aligned scientific discipline
• Substantial postdoctoral or independent research experience qualifying as a senior basic scientist
• Proven skill in experimental planning, molecular or genetic techniques, and critical analysis of complex datasets
• A record of peer-reviewed publications that demonstrate contributions to genetic or pharmacological science
• Clear written and spoken communication abilities suitable for scientific audiences
• Capacity for self-directed work combined with effective collaboration inside a team setting at Vumc in Nashville, TN
• Familiarity with common laboratory instrumentation, data-analysis software, and research documentation standards
