The Opportunity

As a Disaster Recovery and Resilience Specialist with the City and County of San Francisco, you'll develop and execute strategies to protect essential technology infrastructure and maintain government operations during disruptions. This role bridges technical expertise with organizational resilience, helping ensure that city services remain available to residents and staff. You'll work with department heads and IT teams across municipal systems to evaluate risks, design recovery solutions, and build a culture of preparedness throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain comprehensive disaster recovery and business continuity plans across city technology systems
• Conduct regular testing, simulations, and exercises of backup and recovery procedures to ensure readiness
• Document recovery time objectives, recovery point objectives, and escalation procedures for critical systems
• Collaborate with department stakeholders to understand their technology dependencies and recovery requirements
• Monitor backup infrastructure, storage systems, and failover capabilities to ensure operational readiness
• Respond to system outages and disruptions, coordinating recovery efforts and communicating status to leadership
• Maintain up-to-date inventories of critical systems, data repositories, and recovery resources
• Stay current with resilience best practices, emerging threats, and evolving technology solutions

Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with systems administration, IT operations, or infrastructure management
• Knowledge of disaster recovery methodologies, frameworks, and industry standards
• Familiarity with backup and recovery technologies, cloud services, or virtualization platforms
• Strong documentation and technical writing skills
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
